Steering Grid
The Veth Steering Grid is the most recent addition to the Veth product line. It is a 360° rotating bow thruster with a thought through construction.
The Veth Steering Grid has an innovative mechanical design, in which many successful parts of the Veth Bow Thruster have been used such as the steering worm wheel and main gearing. The easy to build in unit takes a limited amount of space. Thanks to the hydrodynamically optimised unit the Veth Steering Grid is very effective and can be delivered in a range from 300 to 650 hp.
Principle of Operation
With the help of a horizontally mounted propeller, the water is drawn up from underneath the vessel. After which the water is guided through an hydro dynamically shaped housing to a 360 degrees steerable grid.
A major benefit of the Veth-Steering grid is that with a minimal draught the maximum thrust can be achieved without parts protruding through the ships hull. An additional advantage of the horizontally mounted propeller is that also when the ship is sailing the thruster still develops a considerable thrust. This is realized because of the upwards pressure of the water.
The propeller has only 1 turning direction and therefore can be optimized. A reversing clutch is not necessary.
